How a college does #NoMowMay 🌱 Plumpton College, a horticultural and agricultural college in the South Downs, has been taking part in the No Mow Movement - for the benefit of the environment. “Being part of No Mow May gave us credence to the work we are trying to do on the campus, increasing wildlife diversity across the campus” said Grounds and Garden Manager Alex Waterfield. Across the campus areas like edges of car parks, ditches, boundaries of large lawns and beneath trees are managed for nature all year round. Some areas, on rotation, don’t get cut at all, leaving long grass and dead stems over the winter as a seed source for birds and a space for invertebrates and arachnids to hibernate in. “I would 100% recommend others to do this”, says Alex. About us
Plantlife is the global charity working to secure a world rich in wild plants and fungi. Founded in 1989, Plantlife has 15,000 members and supporters. Wild plants and fungi are the foundation of all life on Earth. Plantlife enhances, restores, protects and celebrates our natural heritage through working with landowners, other conservation organisations, public and private bodies and the wider public. Plantlife owns 23 nature reserves covering nearly 4,500 acres across England, Scotland and Wales. We were instrumental in the creation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, the Important Plant Area network and we are a member of Planta Europa, a pan-European network of over 60 wild plant conservation organisations. We are governed by a board of 12 trustees and have around 70 staff, located across the UK. We also support a team of 1500 volunteers who work in the field, at events and in our offices. A registered charity, Plantlife is funded by donations from its members and supporters, through grants and charitable trusts and through its pioneering land management advice and projects.

Congratulations to our incredible London Marathon runners! 🏅🏃♀️ A heartfelt thank you to all eight runners who took on the 2025 London Marathon in support of our mission to create a world where plants and fungi thrive. Featured here are Sally Sanchez, Nicole and Diana Ziv, Marcio Rosa Da Silva, and Lisa Gillund, who all crossed the finish line with impressive times – each completing the race in under 5.5 hours, despite the heat. No small feat! Thanks to the dedication of our runners and the generosity of supporters, an impressive £9,142 has been raised so far—and counting! Thank you for going the distance for nature! There is still time to donate. This report ⬇️ It's not the cow it's the how ⬇️ Explores the benefits that grazing livestock could deliver as part of UK food system transformation, with diverse grasslands at its heart. How livestock can play vital roles in the biodiversity and climate crises– as long as we farm differently, shifting away from current high-input farming methods, and adjust our diets to reflect what the land can sustainably support. So many of the UK's important nature-rich habitats - like species-rich grasslands - are features of farmed landscapes, having evolved within traditional farming practices. Farmers need the right support and advice to keep managing these rare habitats, using livestock as the ultimate ecosystem engineers that also produce nutrient-dense food, and build healthy carbon-rich soils. That's why we're pleased that @sustainablefoodtrust supports our call for the UK Government to take a strategic approach to grasslands - backed by dedicated resource in Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs -by supporting farmers and unlocking the value of more than 40% of England's land. 📍 Our new report ‘Grazing Livestock: It’s not the cow but the how’ finds that cattle and sheep raised on pasture can be a vital part of the solution to our current climate, nature and health crises, provided we change the way we farm and shift away from intensively farmed animal products. 🔗 Read the full report now, available via the SFT website: https://lnkd.in/ggiCnnHj #GrazingLivestock #GrazingForGood

Had a great day filming with Landward yesterday, chatting about wildflower meadows, pollinators, and #NoMowMay. Thanks to Scottish Wildlife Trust for letting us film at the beautiful Bo'Mains Meadow wildlife reserve, and for the clouds of photo-bombing Orange Tip butterflies.

Unlocking future land use: nature is key 🔑 We've submitted our response to the UK Government's consultation on the Land Use Framework (LUF). We see the need for a LUF to shape land use to 2050 and beyond. 🌎 As well as new homes and infrastructure, we’ll need it in preparing for immense natural resource challenges: climate change, nature recovery, resource safeguarding, water and food systems, pollution and human health. 📊 An effective LUF can help us establish principles, mobilise data and inform decision-making on land use by farmers and foresters, planners and politicians, climate scientists and conservationists. 👩🌾We think the LUF should better capture the potential of land to deliver multiple benefits. Which is why Plantlife and its partners are calling for a Government-led Grassland Taskforce, plugged into the LUF to make more of grasslands as a national asset. 🍄The consultation talks about the need to ‘play to the strength of the land’; to truly do this, the LUF must recognise that the land’s long-term strength is in its healthy, recovering natural ecosystems: including its plants, fungi, grasslands, and soils.
